Is teaching in your future? Is teaching your passion? USF’s Department of Education guarantees teacher candidates opportunities to become active participants in a community of learners who respect one another’s unique talents and share a commitment to teaching and learning.
Our faculty members are eager to partner with you to share rich professional experiences beyond the university classroom. As teachers and leaders in public, parochial, and private schools, faculty understand that the best approaches to professional preparation are rooted in a balanced blending of theory and practice. On-going contact with the region’s teachers and administrators reinforce our commitment to providing teacher candidates with knowledge and experiences they can readily apply in their own classrooms.
We participate in a myriad of professional development endeavors. Educators In Action, the Department’s service-professional service organization, is run by and for teacher candidates. Annually, the Department takes the lead in the Best Practices Showcase, one the region’s most prominent educational happenings. Throughout the year we host professional workshops and seminars on campus, while making our mark as presenters at professional events around the state and nation. And, as a Franciscan institution of higher education we are honored to serve the needs of society through a multitude of altruistic activities at the local, national, or international levels. Developing and refining your unique way of expressing a passion for teaching is our business.
