 Never quit Trahin
 Jake Trahin launches a 1-0 pitch from Chris Howell for a 3-run first inning
 home run that tied the game at five against Taylor in the Mid-Central
 Conference Tournament in Marion. The Trojans belted 7 HRs to end the
 Cougars' record-setting season 26-10. Below, Trahin is greeted by his

 Oh, what a relief
 Chase Gaff, left, gives Bart Schnur a hand after Schnur closed in the
 ninth to secure a 9-5 win over ninth-ranked Spring Arbor in the first game
 of the Mid-Central Conference Baseball Tournament on Wednesday.
 Despite three home runs, USF slipped to 1-1 in the tournament after a
 9-8, 10-inning defeat to Bethel in Game 2 late Wednesday afternoon.

 Lady Cougars oust Taylor, but bow out in Game 3 loss

 
 Hit man
 Travis Potchka cranked out two more hits helping the University of
 Saint Francis to a 9-8 win over Marian College to advance to the
 Mid-Central Conference Tournament. Potchka tied and passed the
 USF single-season hit record of 76 set by Cody Scherer in 2000 and
 the Cougars won their 26th game, also a record in the 45th season of
 the baseball program. Potchka also set a stolen base record with his
 14th of the season. Story

 
 Stayin' Alive
  Centerfielder Travis Potchka bangs out another hit against Marian on
  Saturday in the Cougars' MCC Play-in doubleheader. Marian won the
  first game 4-3, but USF kept its season alive with a record-tying 25th
  win, 9-6. Marian returns to USF on Monday for a 1 p.m. game to
  determine which team moves on to the MCC Tournament.  Story

 
 'Taylor' made pitch
  USF freshman Taylor Futterknecht mashed this pitch in Game 1 for a
  school-record tying seventh home run this season, a 2-run blast that
  proved to be the winning cushion in the 5-4 win at Taylor University in
  Upland on Thursday afternoon. TU won Game 2 12-4. USF will be
  playing an MCC Play-in Series doubleheader on Saturday against an

 Sweep celebration
  USF junior Jake Trahin is picked up by Cougar teammates after
  crossing home plate after hitting a 1-out, walk-off home run in the
  bottom of the eighth inning of Game 2 at Cougar Field lifting USF over
  Purdue-North Central 3-2 on Wednesday. USF won the opener 5-1.

  USF junior Chase Gaff fired a 6-0 shutout in Game 2 against Taylor on
  Tuesday at Cougar Field to help the Cougars bounce back from an 11-0

 way for some long runs, but the White team (celebrating below) pulled

  Nunez knock
  USF third baseman Berto Nunez belted a 2-run double and scored
  what proved to be the winning run in the Cougars' 6-5 comeback win
  over cross-town rival Indiana Tech in Game 2 at Warrior Field on
  Saturday afternoon. Indiana Tech won Game 1, 5-0.

 
 Power pitcher
 USF senior pitcher Cassie Steinbrunner pulverized a pitch for a solo
 home run in the second inning of Game 1 to regain the lead for the Lady
 Cougars in their home opener on Senior Day on Thursday afternoon.
 USF eventually won 9-2 and Steinbrunner went the distance in the
 circle to secure her third win of the season. USF rallied to win Game 2
 6-5 over Grace College. Story

 Homer watch
 USF right-fielder Austin Leisure watches his high drive to left field that
 sailed out of in the jet stream for a home run, the Cougars' first run
 against NCAA Division I member Valparaiso University on Wednesday
 afternoon. The host Crusaders rallied from a 9-7 deficit to edge USF
 10-9 in 10 innings. Though the wind was blowing out at 20 mph,
 Leisure's blast was the only home run. USF outhit VU 17-12.

 USF relief pitcher Brok Lahrman (left) has a big high 5 for left-fielder Jake
 Trahin after Trahin's game-ending catch in a 3-2, 8-inning nail-biter over
 Bethel College in Game 1 on Tuesday. Ben Dunlap's single in the top of
 the eighth scored Travis Potchka with what proved to be the
 game-winning run. The Cougars finished the road sweep with a decisive 16-4 conquest in Game 2 in Mishawaka, Ind.

 
 Drew denial
 USF catcher Drew Linder tags out Bethel base-runner Dustin Gosztola
 in the second inning of Game 1 on Monday in a twin bill that was
 postponed on Saturday by the inclement weather. BC won 7-1 and
 3-0 snapping the Cougars' 8-game winning streak. Story

 
 'Futter' connects for Cougars
 USF freshman Taylor Futterknecht sends this pitch over the left-center-
 field fence in Game 2 helping the Cougars to an 8-3 win over Goshen
 College on Friday afternoon. It was the Cougars' eighth straight win after
 USF won 6-2 in Game 1. This was Futterknecht's fourth HR of the

 5 for Ellisen
 USF forward Melissa Ellisen (11) is greeted by teammate Hilary Powers
 after Ellisen scored late in the match in the 3rd Annual Lady Cougars
 Women's Spring Fling soccer event on a sunny, warm Saturday at
 Bishop D'Arcy Stadium. Wright State University held off USF 3-2 in the
 first match of the day.


 Linder locks 'em out
 USF catcher Drew Linder tags out Grace base-runner Michael Clark
at
 home plate to end the fourth inning. Right-fielder Tristen Peffley threw to
 shortstop Ben Dunlap who threw home to deny the Lancers what would
 have been their seventh run of the game. Brok Lahrman and Bart Schnur
 combined to shut out the Lancers the last three innings and USF rallied
 with 5 runs in the sixth for the 7-6 Game 2 win. USF held off GC 8-7
 in Game 1. Lahrman got the save in relief in Game 1 and the win in
 Game 2 at Cougar Field on Thursday afternoon.

  
 Denial by Degitz
 Huntington University came to Cougar Field pursuing its seventh consec-
 utive MCC win Wednesday afternoon, but Matt Degitz (above) held the
 Foresters to five hits in six innings and with a seventh inning of runless
 relief from Bart Schnur, USF won 3-1. HU edged USF 3-2 in Game 2
 despite Jarrod Wehri's third homer of the season.

 
 No-hitter no more
 Freshman Whitney Piercefield follows through with her swing on the only
 hit of the game in Game 1 against Huntington University on Saturday.
 The MCC doubleheader was played at HU since the USF field was still
 too wet to play on. HU won Game 1 8-0 in 6 innings and Game 2 5-4 in
 nine innings.

 
 Spring Football is in the air
 Football was back in the air and on Kevin Donley Field at Bishop D'Arcy
 Stadium on Friday afternoon, the first of 10 days of spring drills leading
 up to the annual Blue & White Game on Sun., April 20, starting at 1 p.m.
