Theresa Sorgen-Burleson

Assistant Professor, Program Director, Surgical Technology

Bio

Ms. Sorgen- Burleson is an Assistant Professor in the College of Health Sciences. She received her Associate of Science in Surgical Technology from the University of Saint Francis in 2000 and earned the NBSTSA National Certification for Surgical technologists. In 2008 she earned a bachelor’s degree in Health Services from the University of Saint Francis.  She then continued her education and earned a master’s degree in Business Administration in 2015 from the University of Saint Francis.  

Ms. Sorgen-Burleson joined the University faculty in 2002 where she began as and adjunct Clinical Instructor for many years then transitioned to the role of Clinical Coordinator for the Surgical Technology Program in 2013. In 2015 she took on the role of Program Director for the Surgical Technology Program. She has helped to grow the Surgical Technology Program with the addition of a Satellite location in Crown Point Indiana in 2021 and began a partnership with Fort Wayne Community Schools Career Academy to offer Central Services Technician course for high school students in 2022.  Additionally, she has served as the Program Director for Health Services since 2019.

Ms. Sorgen-Burleson continued to practice as a Certified Surgical Technologist at Dupont Hospital for the past 22 years. She is actively involved with ARC/STSA and CAAHEP accreditation where she serves as an Accreditation Site Evaluator Chair and contributor the ARC/STSA Newsletter.  

Outside of the University Ms. Sorgen-Burleson serves on the School Board for Woodburn Lutheran School. She is also a member of the Fort Wayne Community Schools Career Academy Health Advisory Board.
