Saint Francis awarded Homeland Security grants for Fort Wayne, Lafayette

FORT WAYNE, Ind.—The University of Saint Francis will receive nearly $400,000 for its Public Safety department through the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) of the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.

The university was awarded grants of $199,990 for its Fort Wayne campus and $198,432 for its Lafayette location. The money will be used to enhance security features.

“Safety for our students, faculty, staff and visitors is a priority at Saint Francis, and we are pleased these grants will help us continue to enhance the safety and security on campus,” Saint Francis President Sr. Maria Gemma Salyer, OSF, said. “We are grateful to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security for these awards.”

The Nonprofit Security Grant Program is a competitive grant program intended to provide federal funding for physical security enhancements and other security-related activities to nonprofit organizations that are at risk of a terrorist attack. The NSGP seeks to integrate the preparedness activities of nonprofit organizations with broader state and local preparedness efforts.

Initiatives to enhance preparedness for Saint Francis will include improvements in video surveillance, lighting, perimeter security and communications.
