Saint Francis to unveil Lafayette site at grand opening

FORT WAYNE, Ind.—The University of Saint Francis will hold a grand opening of its Lafayette site on Tuesday, May 12. The event at Our Lady of Lourdes Hall, 1415 Salem Street, is open to the public.

The grand opening will be from 1 to 3 p.m. and will include a blessing by Most Reverend Timothy L. Doherty, S.T.L., Ph.D., Bishop of the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana. The blessing will be followed by a ribbon cutting and a few words from Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski. Guests are welcome to enjoy light refreshments in the new space after the ceremony.

Saint Francis began serving Lafayette students this spring. Students may pursue bachelor’s degrees and associate degrees, as well as streamlined certificate programs through the Leffler Academy of Saint Francis. Degree programs include Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Medical Imaging, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Health Sciences and Radiologic Technology. Certificates include Clinical Medical Assistant, Electrocardiography (EKG) Technician, Medical Billing and Coding, Nurse Aide, Phlebotomy Technician Preparation and Qualified Medication Aide.

Franciscan Health donated the former Bill Long Medical Building to the university, and an anonymous donor contributed $3.5 million for program expansion in Lafayette. The city of Lafayette was the birthplace of the university in 1890 and served students until the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration—the university’s sponsor—established the Fort Wayne campus in 1944.

Saint Francis’ expanded programming helps fulfill workforce development healthcare needs in the region and comes with the enthusiastic support of Bishop Doherty. Learn more about the site and program offerings at sf.edu.
