USF exhibit to showcase sculptor Ken Thompson and the Fort Wayne Photography Club

FORT WAYNE, Ind.—The University of Saint Francis will display works by regional 3D sculptor Ken Thompson and the Fort Wayne Photography Club from Jan. 16 through Feb. 22 at the Mimi and Ian Rolland Art and Visual Communication Center.

USF will host “A Closer Look Lecture” by Thompson at noon and an artist’s reception from 5 to 7 p.m., both on Thursday, Jan. 26, at the Rolland Center, located off Leesburg Road on the southeast side of campus, 2701 Spring Street.

Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Thompson’s mixed media sculpting career spans more than 40 years and he owns a studio in Blissfield, Michigan. In addition to creating works in metal, stone and wood, Thompson coordinates the Midwest Sculpture Initiative, which rotates large-scale outdoor sculptures by national artists throughout Michigan, Indiana and Ohio. Thompson installed two sculptures at the Rolland Center.

Thompson’s lecture will focus on his studio practice and career as a sculptor. He will describe his experiences as an outdoor, environmental artist and how materials such as stone, metal and wood can define how a sculpture is designed. 3Rivers Federal Credit Union serves as sponsor of the lecture.

Works by 18 artist members from the Fort Wayne Photography Club will be on display in the Goldfish Gallery.
