FORT WAYNE, Ind.—The Lee and Jim Vann Library at the University of Saint Francis invites the public to a free screening and discussion of the landmark documentary, “The Social Dilemma.”
The film will be shown at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 4 in Achatz Hall of Science and John and Toni Murray Research Center on the USF campus, 2701 Spring Street. After the screening, a panel of USF professors will lead a discussion on the film’s impacts and implications on the local and global scale.
Through interviews with several former top executives from tech giants like Facebook and Twitter, the film takes a critical look at social media’s impact on mental health. “The Social Dilemma” also examines social media’s influence on conspiracy theories, the spread of disinformation and the manipulation of emotions and behavior.
ABC News said the film is “an eye-opening look into the way social media is designed to create addiction and manipulate our behavior, told by some of the very people who supervised the systems at places like Facebook, Google and Twitter.”
