FORT WAYNE, Ind.—The University of Saint Francis invites young adults of all faiths to attend the Theology on Tap summer series, presented through the Catholic Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend.
“The Road to Emmaus” series runs each Tuesday night in July (with a closing celebration on August 2). The series will be based on the Gospel of Luke 24:13-35 and will feature a local follower of faith, along with the opportunity for people to enjoy food, drink and fellowship. All are welcome to attend. Admission is free, with food and drink available for purchase.
The July events, which begin with food and bar service at 6:30 p.m., will be held in the Cougar Den, located behind Trinity Hall on the campus at 2701 Spring Street.

Finding Christ in Chaos
Tuesday, July 5
Cindy Black of Spoke Street Media, an expansion of Redeemer Radio, will discuss how the followers of Jesus on the Road to Emmaus found themselves in an experience of chaos following the crucifixion. The discussion will consider how the transition from youth to young adulthood can feel chaotic and what it means to navigate a relationship with Christ amidst the chaos of life, even when we do not recognize Him.
Finding Christ in Suffering
Tuesday, July 12
Mary Glowaski, Assistant in Pastoral Care to Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend, will discuss the role that suffering plays in the experience of Jesus’ followers on the Road to Emmaus, and how it relates to the experience of suffering as a young adult. The discussion will explore how to learn to turn to Christ during suffering.
Finding Christ in Scripture
Tuesday, July 19
Dr. Alex Giltner, USF Assistant Professor of Theology, will explore how Jesus taught the importance of Scriptures, starting with showing his disciples Scripture’s significance on the Road to Emmaus. Dr. Giltner will look at how Christ still opens the Scriptures to his disciples today, so they can come to a closer relationship with him.
Finding Christ in the Breaking of Bread
Tuesday, July 26
Fr. Jose Arroyo, Pastor of St. Paul of the Cross in Columbia City, will explore how Jesus’ followers recognized him during the breaking of the break on the Road to Emmaus and how he then vanished from their sight. Fr. Arroyo will explore the significance to those who follow Jesus today.
Closing Mass and Party
Tuesday, August 2
The series will culminate with a celebration of Holy Mass in the St. Francis Chapel at 6:30 p.m., followed by a party with food and drink in the Achatz Hall of Science and John and Toni Murray Research Center.
