FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The University of Saint Francis announces the hiring of alumnus Tyler Speigl as its new esports head coach.
Speigl, a native of Petoskey, Michigan, graduated from USF in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He was also a member of the USF golf team. Speigl succeeds Vaughn Gallagher as esports coach.
“I want to thank Vaughn Gallagher for everything he did to get the USF Cougar esports program up and running,” Athletic Director Mike McCaffrey said. “What was an idea as a student here at USF became reality and he has laid the groundwork for the program going forward. Being able to hand the program off to another former USF student-athlete, Tyler Speigl, will provide the team and program a smooth transition. Tyler is one of the top gamers in the country and his passion for esports was very evident when speaking to him. I can’t wait to see the growth and continued commitment to making USF Cougar esports a destination for gamers from across the Midwest.”
Speigl has been ranked in the top 0.1% in the world in Rocket League and has experience competing against the top professional Rocket League players. He has followed esports for more than 10 years and has been involved in a growing social media presence.
