FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The University of Saint Francis invites young people of all faiths to the Theology on Tap series, presented through the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend.
The Catholic speaker series is aimed at single or married adults in their 20s and 30s, and includes food, fellowship and faith. Theology on Tap starts at 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday through August 3 and is held outside the Cougar Den, behind Trinity Hall on the USF campus, 2701 Spring Street. Outdoor seating is provided, with meals and drinks available for purchase. The event will move inside the Cougar Den in the event of inclement weather.
A theme of renewal will be explored as part of the “Making All Things New” series, organized by local young adults.
Upcoming sessions:
Renewal of Vision, July 13. This session considers the challenges people face in embracing a healthy self-image. How do we get rid of the distractions and fears that cloud our true identity? What does it mean to have a mission and a clear vision for our lives? The session leader is Molly Roman, author of “Good at Life,” a book for young adults based on the author’s own journey through her faith as a young person discovering virtue.
Renewal in Rest, July 20. This session will touch on the differences between leisure and distraction and give guidance on how to navigate the new reality of increased screen time. This session will be co-led by Michael Handlin, LCSW, LCAC of Handlin Counseling, LLC. Handlin, a licensed professional therapist, and addictions counselor, served with Catholic Charities for many years. The session co-leader is Sister Ignatia Henneberry, OSF. Sister Ignatia is a Sister of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration. She previously served as assistant director of campus ministry at USF. In 2020, she moved to the Motherhouse in Mishawaka, Indiana, where she is the vocation director.
Renewal of Heart, July 27. This session will consider how the loss of community and access to the sacraments might have affected our relationships with Jesus. How can we renew our hearts and ignite them with passion for our faith? The session leader is Rev. Thomas Shoemaker, pastor of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, former dentist, and hobbyist carpenter.
Closing Mass, August 3. The summer “Theology on Tap” series will culminate with celebration of the Holy Mass in the USF Chapel at 6:30 p.m., celebrated by USF president Rev. Dr. Eric Albert Zimmer. There will be an afterparty on the Achatz Hall of Science and John and Toni Murray Research Center balcony at 7:30 p.m. This will include food, drinks and activities.
