USF to host C. Curry Bohm traveling art exhibition

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – A traveling exhibition showcasing the art of C. Curry Bohm (1894-1971) will be featured Oct. 30 through Nov. 22 at the University of Saint Francis.

“C. Curry Bohm: Brown County and Beyond” includes more than 50 works spanning almost 50 years from Bohm, one of the most successful and awarded of the early Brown County artists. The exhibition, which has traveled around Indiana, is the most comprehensive group of Bohm’s work ever assembled. Twenty-six Hoosier Salon paintings and 20 prize-winning paintings from juried exhibitions present the breadth of the artist’s subject matter, including classic Brown County and Smoky Mountain scenes, East Coast harbor scenes and seascapes, and rare still lifes. Paintings from all seasons are represented, including many of the artist’s iconic winter landscapes.

The collection will be on display at the Mimi and Ian Rolland Art and Visual Communication Center, located off Leesburg Road on the east side of campus, 2701 Spring St. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. USF is the northeast Indiana location for the exhibition. It began at the Brauer Museum of Art in Valparaiso and has traveled through southern Indiana.

As part of the exhibition, a panel discussion will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12 at the USF North Campus Auditorium, 2702 Spring St. Panelists will include Dan Kraft, exhibition coordinator and author of “C. Curry Bohm: Brown County and Beyond,” Tim Parsley, USF Program Director for Studio Art and Associate Professor of Studio Art, Painting and Drawing, and Dr. Elizabeth Kuebler-Wolf, USF Associate Professor of Art History. This lecture is sponsored by 3Rivers Federal Credit Union. The panel discussion is free and open to the public. COVID-19 pandemic precautions will be followed.
