In Partnership with the Jewish Federation of Fort Wayne and the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, the University of Saint Francis School of Creative Arts is pleased to exhibit the “Strings of the Holocaust,” in conjunction with Violins of Hope throughout the Fort Wayne community.
Free and open to the public, visitors are invited to view, learn and contemplate the Violins of Hope, an exhibition of instruments that survived long, dangerous journeys of the Holocaust. The exhibition tells the stories of instruments owned by Jewish musicians during the Holocaust. Each instrument is witness to an extraordinary story and ongoing legacy.
“Strings of the Holocaust” will be exhibited from Saturday, Nov. 9 through Sunday, Dec. 1 in the Weatherhead Gallery at theMimi and Ian Rolland Art and Visual Communication Center. A special Exhibition Opening Reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 9 at the Rolland Art Center.
Also on display will be works created by graphic design and art education students at USF and students from New Tech Academy (Wayne and South Side High Schools, FWCS).
Noted directly from Violins of Hope Fort Wayne, the goal of the city-wide collaboration is “to support and uphold Jewish culture and impart an understanding of the Holocaust while highlighting human behavior ‘from ultimate evil to ultimate good.’” The two-week commemoration of community-wide events focuses on themes of defiance, resilience, and legacy of Jewish musicians during the Holocaust, and of the Israeli violinmaker dedicated to bringing these inspirational Strings of the Holocaust back to life.
