Parkview Health renews and increases scholarship commitment to USF

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Parkview Health will provide $200,000 per year in scholarships for University of Saint Francis School of Health Sciences students in a new three-year agreement.

The new agreement is an addendum to a current three-year agreement in which Parkview provides $175,000 per year for USF scholarships. The new agreement will begin in 2020 and run through 2022.

“We want to thank Parkview Health for its continued commitment to University of Saint Francis students,” USF President Sister M. Elise Kriss said. “We greatly value our partnership with Parkview as USF works to educate and cultivate the finest future healthcare professionals.”

Parkview Health Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Executive Judy Boerger said USF graduates fill a significant need in the healthcare field.

“Parkview and Saint Francis have collaborated for many years to support the education of nurses in our community,” Boerger said. “As the nationwide nursing shortage continues to grow due to the expansion of nursing roles and the retirement of the baby boomer population, our local need for nurses remains critical to meeting the needs of our patients and their families.”

USF has established one of the most respected and honored university healthcare programs in Indiana and the nation. USF’s nursing program recently earned a Top 10 ranking in the state by RegisteredNursing.org and was the only Fort Wayne nursing program in the Top 10. The ratings were based on how well a program prepares students for RN licensure and the type of support the university provides during and after the process.

“We are so grateful to Parkview for their long-term partnership with USF and for these scholarship dollars,” said Dean of the School of Health Sciences Mindy Yoder. “This will be integral in helping students to complete degrees at USF in nursing and other healthcare-related fields such as surgical technology, radiologic technology, physical therapy, social work and dietetics.”
