USF announces 2019 Presidential Gala featuring two new art exhibits

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The University of Saint Francis, President Sister M. Elise Kriss and the School of Creative Arts will host the 2019 Presidential Gala on Sept. 7 on the campus.

The gala will run from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Mimi and Ian Rolland Art and Visual Communication Center, located off Leesburg Road on the campus, 2701 Spring St. The gala is free and open to the public and is sponsored by 3Rivers Federal Credit Union.

The gala will feature works by sculpture/installation artist Virginia Kistler of Columbus, Ohio, and mixed-media photography/video artist Emily Hanako Momohara of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Kistler will present a public lecture at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 26 in the USF North Campus Auditorium, 2702 Spring St. The lecture is also free and open to the public.

Kistler will be creating a site-specific installation in the Weatherhead Gallery. Her installations incorporate a variety of media including laser cut rubber, cnc router-cut plastic, 3D printed plastic and photography. Momohara will have photo and video-based works on display in both the Goldfish and Artist Spotlight Gallery. She references Japanese craft and gardening heritage in her work that describes the Japanese American experience over generations. Immigration, heritage and mixed-race identity weave in and out of her work seamlessly.
