Why Study Teaching at Saint Francis?

A career in teaching may be just the change you need, and Saint Francis can help you get there. The online Transition to Teaching program is designed for people without previous classroom experience. Through 6-8 courses taught by experienced online teachers and chosen from one of four tracks (elementary education, secondary education, mild intervention, or intense intervention), you’ll be prepared to achieve your teaching certificate. The program includes a capstone practicum that incorporates on-site learning and student teaching experience.

Saint Francis offers fully online courses, taught asynchronously so you can do the work on your own time, with structured deadlines to keep you on track to graduate quickly. Classes are taught in short eight-week sessions, with a 120-hour field practicum and a 16-week clinical internship (student teaching) as capstone experiences. Saint Francis provides the support of experienced online instructors and a network of alumni mentors to help you through graduation and beyond.

Saint Francis draws on decades of excellence and experience in teacher education and Franciscan traditions and values that stretch back centuries but remain vitally relevant in today’s complex ethical landscape.
