Alison Miyauchi

Executive Director of Creative Arts, Associate Professor

Bio

Alison Miyauchi is a graduate of the University of Alberta, with a double degree in Commerce and Fine Art, holds a Masters degree in Art History from Bryn Mawr College, and served as a Research Fellow of the Smithsonian Institution.

She is a practicing artist and designer and has lived and worked in Milan, Italy; Rome, Italy; Glasgow, Scotland; London, England; and Nashville, TN. 

Alison joined the Alberta College of Art and Design in 1993, where she served as Head of Visual Communications Design, Chair of the School of Communication Design, and ultimately as Vice President Research and Academic Affairs.

She has exhibited in Canada, Scotland, and the US, including shows at the Harrison Gallery in Vancouver, the Nickle Art Gallery in Calgary, Dimensions Gallery in Toronto, Latitudes in Glasgow, and Bennett Gallery in Nashville.

Her artwork is informed by her ongoing research into the areas of color theory, design principles, and typography. Alison has also published works on service learning, design thinking, and social responsibility and design education.
