FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The University of Saint Francis will celebrate the 100th anniversary of women’s right to vote at its Constitution Day event.
The event will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17 in the Historic Woman’s Club, 402 W. Wayne St. The club is located on the third floor of the USF Business Center. The official USF Constitution Day event is sponsored by the College of Arts, Sciences and Business and USF Women’s Empowerment Club.
Admission is free but seating is limited due to social distancing. Attendees should reserve a seat through Eventbrite at usfconstitutiondayevent2020.eventbrite.com and wear a face covering.
The presentation will commemorate the 100th anniversary of women’s right to vote through the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution on Aug. 26, 1920, the same year the League of Women Voters was founded by the leaders of the women’s suffrage movement.
Representatives from the League of Women Voters will discuss their incredible history and belief in the power of women to create a more perfect democracy, a nonpartisan, activist, grassroots organization that believes voters should play a critical role in democracy.
Associate Professor of History Dr. Phyllis Gernhardt and Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice and Criminology Heather Jeffries will provide historic information about the Fort Wayne Woman’s Club and the women’s suffrage movement.
