FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The University of Saint Francis will host Visual Arts and Music Technology workshops for high school students and teachers on Friday, Oct. 25.
The workshops will run from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $20 per student, which includes workshop supplies and lunch. Teachers attend for free.
The visual arts workshop will be held in the Mimi and Ian Rolland Art and Visual Communication Center on the campus, 2701 Spring St. Each student will participate in one of nine sessions with a full-time faculty member. The workshops include Digital Animation, Traditional Animation, Sculpting Pendants/Charms, Screenprint Monotype and Sequential Images, Photography Transfers, Drawing, Figure Drawing, Ceramics and Illustration. Teachers will spend the day discussing the history, challenges and benefits of public art and explore the variety of ways artists engage with their communities. Additionally, teachers will create a collaborative public art piece as an example of a project they could integrate into the classroom. Six Professional Growth Points will be offered.
The music technology workshop will be held in the Music Technology Center, 431 W. Berry St. Students will work in the state-of-the-art recording studios where they will experience the entire process of recording and mixing a song. Students will learn about the basic recording techniques and music production using Avid’s Pro Tools and Apple’s Logic Pro X recording software. All students will get a hands-on experience working on a Neve recording console. Teachers are welcome to attend this day to expand their own experience with music technology curriculum to apply to their classrooms and will receive six Professional Growth Points.
