FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The University of Saint Francis School of Creative Arts presents “Mythology of History: Works by Adam Mysock and Ivan Fortushniak”. The exhibition opens on Saturday, January 20 from 6-9 p.m. in the Weatherhead Gallery of the Mimi and Ian Rolland Art and Visual Communication Center just off Leesburg Road on the USF Main Campus. The exhibition runs until February 21.
This exhibition will display works by two artists that reference history in the work from an allegorical point of view. Mysock states of his small-scale, hyper-realistic acrylic paintings, “I’m a revisionist history painter. Rather than rewrite the narrative of the past to justify an ideology, I repaint yesterday’s imagery in order to rationalize our present circumstances.”
Fortushniak works in oil as well as collage and mixed-media. He re-contextualizes historical references in his work as an examination that the challenges of the past are still evident in the present tense. Don Kruse will have works displayed in the Goldfish Gallery. He is a local artist, art educator, and a member of the Fort Wayne Six. His works on paper reference his interest in mythology, world religion, and symbolism.
A free public lecture by Adam Mysock will be presented on Wednesday, February 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the North Campus Auditorium (2702 Spring Street).
