JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Program Director of the academic program, adjunct faculty receive a contract or letter stating adjunct employment with a primary responsibility in teaching. Faculty members assess, plan, implement and evaluate instruction for students in clinical and classroom settings or laboratories in coordination with established course and program objectives.  Serving University of Saint Francis students and the Saint Francis community is paramount.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES: 

Teaching & Related Activities 

The primary responsibility of a faculty member is effective teaching.  For details on classroom and clinical responsibilities – See Saint Francis Faculty Handbook.  Faculty are expected to: 

  • Teach courses consistent with the catalog description and content map  
  • Teach assigned classes at the scheduled time and place and meets required contact hours 
  • Integrate evidence-based practice in fulfilling all roles of faculty practice  
  • Collaborate with colleagues for instructional improvement via professional peer review   
  • Submit reports and requests for information promptly  
  • Fulfill the Code of Ethics of the university and for the profession 
  • Teach students using appropriate methodologies to facilitate student classroom and/or clinical learning experiences  
  • Create an effective learning environment for students 
  • Effectively communicate with students 
  • Facilitate critical reflection and support innovation in students 
  • Provide timely feedback and fairly evaluate students’ progress 
  • Evaluate student clinical, laboratory and classroom performance and provide individual counsel and guidance as necessary to promote student success 
  • Propose plans to improve students’ performance 
  • Maintain appropriate records such as clinical evaluations, test scores, anecdotal notes and attendance on an ongoing basis to document evidence of student progress  

Assignments may be adjusted for special assignments at the discretion of the Program Director. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Education 

Advanced Medical Imaging 

  • Graduate of an accredited school of radiologic technology, sonography, nuclear medicine, or radiation therapy, or magnetic resonance imaging 
  • Bachelor’s degree in medical imaging discipline or related field required 
  •  Master’s, and Doctorate degree in a related field preferred 

Department of Radiologic Technology 

  • Graduate of an accredited school of radiologic technology  
  • Associate degree in discipline or related field required 
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degree in a related field preferred  

Division of Kinesiology and Nutrition 

  • Masters or graduate degree in the field of study required. 
  • Doctorate or terminal degree preferred. 
  • Specific programs may have further qualifications to comply with accreditation requirements 

Division of Nursing 

  • Master’s degree in nursing or plan in progress and completion within five years of date of hire required 
  • Doctorate in nursing preferred  
  • Certification in specialty area preferred 

Department of Surgical Technology 

  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program  
  • Associate degree in discipline or related field required  
  • Bachelor or higher degree in a related field preferred  

Physical Therapist Assistant Program 

  • Graduate of an accredited physical therapy or physical therapist assistant education program  
  • Associate degree in discipline or related field required 
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field preferred  

Physician Assistant Program 

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program  
  • Master’s degree in discipline or related field required  
  • Doctorate in a related field preferred  

Social Work Program 

  • Master’s degree in social work with two-years post-social work degree practice experience required 
  • Doctorate in social work preferred  

Simulation Lab 

  • Bachelor’s degree in discipline or related field required  
  • Master’s degree in a related field or plan in progress and completion within five years of date of hire preferred 

Licensure/Certification 

Advanced Medical Imaging 

  • Maintain current registration and certification in an advanced medical imaging discipline 
  • Current state licensure in a medical imaging profession or eligible for state license (where applicable) 

Department of Radiologic Technology 

  • Current registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (or equivalent) 
  • Current radiographer license through the Indiana State Board of Health, Radiologic Health Division  

Division of Kinesiology and Nutrition 

  • Varies by program. (Please list any and all licenses and certifications on your application) 

Division of Nursing 

  • A current Indiana RN license required 

Department of Surgical Technology 

  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist with currency 

Physical Therapist Assistant Program 

  • Current Indiana license as a PT or certificate as a PTA is required 

Physician Assistant Program 

  • Current Indiana licensure as a Physician Assistant or eligible for Indiana license 
  • Maintains current National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification  

Social Work Program 

  • A current license or eligibility for license with a plan to obtain preferred 

Simulation Lab 

  • Licensure or certification in any of the above fields 

 Requirements for all College of Health Sciences faculty engaged in clinical instruction: 

  • Current TB testing 
  • Current CPR certification 
  • Documentation of Hepatitis B immunization 
  • Other requirements as specified by clinical facilities 

Knowledge and Skills 

  • Competence in educational principles and techniques used in higher education classrooms, laboratory and clinical settings  
  • Knowledge of the profession including theory and practice, procedures, and regulations 
  • Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and electronic) necessary to interact effectively with students, faculty, professional staff, administration, clinical affiliates, and the community 
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in the discipline 
  • Prior teaching experience in clinical or classroom setting preferred  

Experience 

  • One to two year’s teaching or training experience preferred, experience in higher education preferred 
  • Two to three year’s professional experience within the field preferred 
  • Specific programs may have further qualifications to comply with accreditation requirements 
  • Knowledge and Skills 
  • Demonstrates an understanding of educational theory, instructional methods and evaluation technique and use of technology utilized in higher education in a classroom setting. 
  • Demonstrates analytical and organizational skills necessary to plan, implement and evaluate educational activities to assure compliance with established goals and objectives. 
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written, necessary to interact effectively with all university constituents.
