The Bachelor of Science in Health Services program prepares graduates to serve in management roles in today’s dynamic health services delivery system. This degree is offered to associate degree graduates of health-related disciplines, providing the opportunity for healthcare professionals to advance their degrees and careers.
Students build upon their current experience in healthcare to develop skills in health service administration and gain a broader understanding of the complex healthcare environment. In addition to completion of general education requirements, students complete 24 hours of core courses in health services management. Students select a practicum in their area of interest and help design individualized goals.
“I decided to pursue the BSHS degree because I wanted to be able to have the education to be in a management position in the healthcare field if the opportunity would arise. As a physical therapist assistant, I feel like this degree will help me to be more marketable in the industry. It has helped me to better understand more of the business aspects of the healthcare field and how to effectively communicate, work with others, and be a leader in an ever growing industry.” – Lily Taing (current BSHS student)
Take Your Associate Degree to the Next Level
Credits from the associate degree are applied to the 120 semester hour requirement for a bachelor’s degree. A maximum of 48 semester credit hours from the associate degree professional courses may be applied to the Bachelor of Science in Health Services degree in addition to transferable general education courses. Students pursuing Associate and Bachelor degrees may be able to finish both in just 3 years.
“I pursued the BSHS degree because it is a part of healthcare that not many people tend to think about at a major contributor, but it is a big part of the healthcare system. Insurance personnel, managers, and office staff of healthcare facilities do a lot of work for the patients, medical professionals, and visitors, with the BSHS degree I will be able to contribute to the healthcare society in many different ways.” Katherine Stephan (current BSHS student)
