Master of Science in Nursing

The demand for advanced practice nurses who are independent and collaborate with other health care professionals has grown.

Requirements

The following requirements apply to the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program.

  • Meet general admission standards for graduate education at the University of Saint Francis
  • Hold a baccalaureate degree in nursing or other discipline
  • Hold a current license as a registered nurse
  • Have an undergraduate GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale
  • Satisfactorily complete a graduate or undergraduate statistics course within the last five years
  • Submit a résumé or curriculum vitae
  • Submit three letters of recommendation
  • Students with a GPA below a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale must take the GRE (Gradaute Record Exam)
  • Complete and submit the USF MSN Essay (Written Goals). The MSN Essay should be typed, 1-2 pages in length, double-spaced, APA format and address the following question: How have you contributed to the profession of nursing?  Please include presentations, publications, mentoring, evidence-based practice, leadership roles, committee participation, and role in professional organizations. 
  • Complete MSN Admission Interview (Personal Interview)

Prospective students who do not meet all of the above criteria may be admitted "provisionally." These graduate students must earn a GPA of 3.2 in the first six hours of graduate nursing core courses at USF to be fully admitted to the MSN program.
