Community Programs
At the University of Saint Francis, we believe educators serve one of the most important roles in society. We believe firmly that educators can, and must, make a difference; make a difference in communities, make a difference in schools, make a difference in children. The University of Saint Francis offers programs which engage and benefit students, faculty, educators and our community. To support this philosophy, the University has created two programs that are making a difference: Best Practice Showcase, and the Oaks and Willows Learning Center.
The Oaks and Willow Learning Center focuses on developing reading and math skills aligned to Indiana’s Academic Standards to prepare students for success on the ISTEP. The Center works with students to evaluate their skills and then design programs to meet the individual needs. The summer program is designed to help K-12 students improve their literacy and mathematical skills and develop strategies for future scholastic achievement. A minimum number of scholarships are offered on a first come first serve basis.
The Best Practice Showcase offers workshops that stimulate new ideas and educational practices to meet the needs of both individual educators and school corporations. The Best Practice Showcase scheduled the first Saturday in February exists to promote best teaching practices and enhance teaching skills. The workshops aim to improve student achievement and learning through professional development of teachers by raising the level of teacher content and pedagogical content knowledge.
