Chemistry beakers

Why should an atom only emit certain wavelengths of light when excited? How does Penicillin G kill bacteria? Why does the world work the way it does? It is safe to say that each of the faculty members in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Saint Francis have become scientists because of a desire to explore what we did not yet know, to answer the question "Why?" We look forward to passing on what we have learned throughout our careers to a new generation of wide eyed and courageous youth that will answer the "whys" of tomorrow.

Chemistry graduates from USF can be found at major research institutions as well as medical, veterinary, pharmacy, and dentistry schools. Some have obtained further education such as Doctor of Philosophy and Doctor of Medicine and many have cultivated careers in Biomedical Research as Lab Directors or Research Associates. Many of our graduates work for major companies in the Pharmaceutical and Agricultural Industries. Some have also chosen career paths in Education. And of course, we have many who become teachers at primary, secondary or postsecondary institutions acoss the country.

We are very proud of the Department of Chemistry and would like to introduce you to our exciting and challenging programs and the wonderful faculty that are its heart and soul.
