Nancy Boylan ’54
Nancy Katherine Boylan, 90, of Fort Wayne, died Sept. 18. Nancy was born in Fort Wayne on Sept. 25, 1932, a daughter of the late Eugene and Katherine (Neuhaus) Haffner. For 26 years, Nancy taught first grade at Fort Wayne Community Schools. Beyond her dedication to education and her students, she was also a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.), Woodhurst Community Association and a board member at the History Center. Nancy raised eight children (four via adoption) and 60 foster children and sponsored numerous children abroad.

Nancy is survived by her children Andrew (Cathy) Boylan, Katherine (Steven) Fuelling, Sarah (Brian) Gore, Nicholas (Susan) Boylan, Daniel Boylan and Theodore (Sharon) Boylan; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister Colette Haffner. She was also preceded in death by her husband Daniel Boylan; sister Marilyn Smethers; brother John Haffner; and granddaughters Gwendolyn Schumate-Mattes and Maria Boylan. Access the obituary.

Judith (Judy) Jordan ’70
Judith “Judy” Elaine Jordan died Oct. 19 at Grace Village Health Care in Winona Lake at the age of 80. She was born on March 31, 1943, in Ashland, Ohio, to Julia Leona (Gaddis) Jordan and John Edward Jordan.

She graduated from Ashland High School in 1961, earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Grace College in Winona Lake and earned her master’s degree in education from the University of Saint Francis.

She is survived by her sister Margaret Anderson of Ashland, Ohio; brother Rodger Jordan of Lake City, Florida; sister-in-law Gail Jordan of Bullhead City, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Janet Jordan; brother Dick Jordan; and her sister-in-law Velda Jordan. Access the obituary.

John Malkoski ’71
John Robert Malkoski, Sr. died on Sept. 17 in Ebeid Hospice surrounded by his family. He was born on February 19, 1949, to Leon and Ruth (Dunmore) Malkoski in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. John graduated from Bishop Luers High School in 1967 and the University of Saint Francis in 1971.

He is survived by his wife Barbara (Jones Schuele); son John, Jr. (Diane) of Toledo, Ohio; daughter Julie (Tim) of Bothell, Washington; sister Marjorie (Malkoski) Brown of San Antonio, Texas; brother Paul (Mim) of Aurora, Colorado; stepson Craig (Andrea) Schuele of Toledo, Ohio; grandsons John III (Jack) of Omaha, Nebraska, Ian and William; step-grandchildren Ezekiel of Tempe, Arizona, Michaela, Gabriel, Hannah, Nathanael, Jacob and Leah; the mother of his children, Bobbie Kanney of St. Henry, Ohio; and three nephews. Wanda Carpenter ’68, ’73
Wanda Ruth (Dirr) Carpenter, 94, of Bemidji, Minnesota, died Oct. 11. She was born April 10, 1929. She was the daughter of Alma (McLain) Dirr and Roy Dirr, both deceased. She is survived by her sister Bonnie Creager and brother Larry Dirr; children Lettie (Tom) Ingmire Eagar and Lisa (Ken) Robinette; stepchildren Bill Carpenter and Donny (Roxanne) Carpenter; grandchildren Brian (Trina) Ingmire, Jeremy (Andrea) Ingmire, Lori (Brent) Sprunger, Toni (Jim) Gillig, Doug (Alisha) Carpenter, Luke (Shelly) Carpenter, Jonah (Kathryn) Carpenter, Andrew (Emily) Carpenter and Catherine Rae Eagar; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray A. Carpenter and brother Gene Dirr. Access the obituary.

Doris Yerger BSW ’80
Doris Mae (McPherson) Yerger, 101, of Fort Wayne, died on Sept. 18. She was born August 18, 1922, in Hope, Arkansas, to Rollie McPherson and Mary (Nash) McPherson.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband James A. Yerger; brothers Chester, George, Lawrence, Oscar, Wilton and Fred Nash; and sisters Jean, Altha, Catherine and Alma.

She is survived by her son Jimmie Yerger; daughter Sharayn Yerger; brother J.T McPherson; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Access the obituary.

Margaret Lortie ’93
Margaret Beth Lortie, 62, of Waterloo, died on Nov. 18, at Golden Years Nursing Home in Fort Wayne. She was born to the late Paul and Billie (Taylor) Lortie in Fort Wayne on Sept. 7, 1961. She graduated from the University of Saint Francis with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Margaret worked as an RN at Lutheran Hospital and at St. Joseph Hospital burn clinic for 19 years.

Margaret is survived by her children Jamie Brummer of Waterloo, Ethan Evans of Fort Wayne and Galen Fiore-Kral of Madison, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; siblings Doug (Sandy) Lortie of New Haven, Rhonda (Don) Rasnic of New Haven, Lori (Jay) Carson of America and Michael (Kim) Lortie of Rome City; and many nieces and nephews. Jeremy Steele ’08, ’18
Jeremy Paul Steele, 44, of Auburn, died on Oct. 3, at his home. He was born in Fort Wayne to Kerry and Nancy Steele of Columbia City. Jeremy graduated from Bishop Dwenger High School and later completed his master’s degree from the University of Saint Francis in healthcare administration.

He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Kelly Steele of Auburn; siblings Chris (Christina) Steele of Fort Wayne, Kim (Brandon) Rentfrow of Fort Wayne and Stacey (Dan) Lockhart of Huntertown; nieces and nephews Jerrod, Devin, Audrey, Layah, Grace, Cheyenne, Tanin and Stefin. Access the obituary.
