The Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership Award is given annually to a full-time faculty member at USF. Students, faculty and staff are eligible to nominate a candidate who has not won the award in the past. The recipient of the 2023 Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership Award was Dr. Wendy Clark. The students who were in Dr. Clark’s nursing class combined their nomination stating, “We, the members of the University of Saint Francis’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program, can identify no other instructor more deserving of this honor. We are proud to facilitate in the recognition of Professor Clark’s hard work. Along with this, Professor Clark addresses each of the Franciscan values during every class. She shows reverence for the dignity of each person through confidentially assisting individuals with their personal struggles in the course. She encourages a prayerful community of learners through her prayers and reflections before each exam. She serves her school, her students and her patients completely.”
The LeePoxy Award for Teaching Excellence is given in recognition of outstanding performance in the classroom and other direct teaching arenas, such as clinical placements, art studios, labs, field studies, distance learning and other appropriate venues. Faculty are nominated by students and the Student Government Association submits finalists’ names to the awards taskforce. The recipient of the 2023 LeePoxy Award for Teaching Excellence was Danielle Peterson. One student who nominated Danielle commented, “This instructor has done an excellent job making sure students are provided with the best education Saint Francis can offer by providing interactive learning, the ability to explain difficult topics and availability outside of class to further assist us when we are having difficulty with assignments.” Another added, “She teaches with passion and enthusiasm, shows so much care for students, making sure everyone is involved, everyone is listened to and everyone is treated with respect.”
