POSITION TITLE: Senior Camp Counselor
DEPARTMENT: Academic Affairs; USF Discovery Academy
POSITION STATUS: Part-time/Temporary
POSITION REPORTS TO: Director of Youth Programming
JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Director of Youth Programming (DYP) and Program Coordinator, a camp counselor assists with the facilitation of a USF summer camp and assumes responsibility for the care, supervision, and instruction of campers. A Senior Camp Counselor (SCC) is expected to mentor and lead campers as well as supervise Junior Camp Counselors. Additionally, a SCC assists the DYP and faculty facilitators with ideas and suggestions for program development and improvement. SCC will be responsible for helping to plan and execute camp lessons. All counselors are expected to exercise good judgment, independence, and initiative in conducting day-to-day operations.
Please note: This is a temporary position with variable scheduling. Hours will depend on availability, camp sessions, and number of enrolled campers.
Major Responsibilities/Activities
- Cultivates a safe environment for campers.
- Assesses, records, and notifies supervisor and USF security of any accidents or hazards.
- Properly fills out incident reports.
- Works with assigned junior counselor on leadership development.
- Maintains a respectful and professional relationship with faculty members, campers, and coworkers.
- Greets campers and parents during drop-off and pick-up times.
- Leads games and activities for campers.
- Works with faculty facilitators to meet youth learning outcomes and ensure program success.
- Assists in supervising and moderating camp lessons and projects.
- Participates in all staff training and workshops.
- Conducts end-of-camp evaluations.
- Assists in clean-up and maintenance of camp areas.
- Assists with parent night and/or additional workshops.
- Collaborates with faculty on plan for how lessons should be executed.
- Enthusiastically leads camp lessons/activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- High School Diploma/GED Required
- Current college students pursing a degree in related subject matter preferred.
- Willingness to get CPR certified preferred.
Experience
- Leadership experience preferred.
- Experience working with K-12 students preferred.
