Catholic Social Teaching Resources

This is a compilation of online resources available from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) will enable the reader to go deeper with background readings on each of the seven CST themes.

Each of the seven themes of CST are given here with a link to a USCCB web page where the reader will find the following items related to the theme:

  • References to Sacred Scripture, including a brief synopsis of the scripture text and a live link to that text. The New American Bible, Revised Edition (NABRE) translation is used.
  • Brief quotations from Catholic writings that explicate the teaching on the theme. References and a live link to the complete text of each writing are also given, in case the reader wishes to see the quotation in context. These writings include papal encyclicals or letters of bishops’ conferences, as well as documents from Church councils and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

These resources are intended to ground the reader in the Catholic Church’s teaching regarding social justice and the many issues facing people today. Some of them can also be shared with others as CST is integrated into one’s life.

It is hoped that the resources associated with the seven themes of CST will be helpful for personal reflection. They can also serve as a spring board to service and social action.
