5-Week Extension

This is a reminder that students have the opportunity to continue working their federal work study position after graduation on May 1, 2010.  This extension will allow students to work up to June 5.  Unfortunately, if you are graduating in May and are not returning to USF in the fall, you will not be able to take advantage of the extension.  The Department of Education regulations state that you must return with student status in the fall.

Students may work up to 40 hours/week as long as there is still money left on the federal work study award and as long as their department has money left in the budget.

In order to work past June 5, students must be attending as least 1 summer session.  All class registration and attendance will be verified by the registrar's office.

For more information on the extension you may contact Gail Matthews using (260) 399-8009 or stop by Trinity Room 101.

Student Employment Update

Beginning August 2009, students will now only be able to be employed in one (1) university position.  For example a student must make the decision between working a federal work study position or other student position such as a Resident Assistant (R/A).

Limitations have also been placed on federal work study awards.  Refer to your financial aid award letter for your personal award.  The ability to increase awards is now restricted.

Students may continue to have two (2) federal work study positions as long as one is a community service position.  Please be aware that working two federal work study positions may exhaust your award quicker than you expected.

These limitations were put into place to allow the most students the opportunity to work. These new limitations can be explained in further detail if you attend the job fair scheduled for August 25 and 28.

If you have questions now, please call Gail Matthews using (260) 399-8009 or email gmatthews@sf.edu.

Student Timesheets

During the past several months there has been confusion, misunderstanding and misconduct regarding work study timesheets. Unfortunately, this has caused several students to be terminated from their positions and infractions placed on their financial aid.

Working together with Dr. Stacy Adkinson and Financial Aid, Human Resources has developed a new student timesheet. In the download section at right, is the new format that you should begin using immediately. Simply print and run as many copies as needed. The Copy Center is in the process of making copies on the NCR carbonless paper and those will be made available in the HR Office as soon as possible.

The soon-to-be obsolete timesheets will still be accepted and processed for payment for the 1/30/09 payroll; however, only the new format will be accepted for the 2/13/09 payroll. If you submit the obsolete form, the timesheet will not be processed for payroll and the timesheet returned to your supervisor.

In the meantime if you have any questions, you may call Gail Matthews at (260) 399-8009 or stop by Trinity Room 101.
