Transposon Research

Research Interest

Transposition of mobile elements is a form of DNA recombination, one of the most fundamentally important processes in all of biology. Immune system function, repair of damaged genes, and generation of diversity are all made possible through the action of genetic recombination. I am interested in the molecular mechanisms of transposon movement, and have been studying a Lepidopteran transposon called piggyBac. This transposon has been used to generate transgenic animals in many species, including mosquitoes and mice. I am interested in determining critical features required for piggyBac mobility.
