Scholastic Competition

The School of Health Sciences Scholastic Competition is open to high school juniors, seniors and graduates interested in pursuing healthcare careers or a social work career in a healthcare setting. Essays or Powerpoint presentations will be accepted in which you describe or explain what factors are motivating you to become a healthcare professional. Three winning entries will be selected:  One first place award of $1000 and two runners-up awards of $500. Awards may be doubled for students enrolling at USF.* Electronic submission of entries is due by Midnight (Eastern Standard Time) Friday April 22, 2016. Notification of winners will be no later than Friday May 13, 2016. Application and essay/Powerpoint materials should be submitted to Christina Gilliom, School of Health Science Recruitment Committee at cgilliom@sf.edu.

JUDGING CRITERIA

  • Application Form is complete and format requirements have been met
  • Professional language and grammar; correct spelling
  • Essay or power point includes relevant examples or evidence of motivating factors
  • Essay or power point demonstrates a distinctive and personal mission for the pursuit of a degree in health care or social work in a health care setting at the University of Saint Francis.

*Past or current USF students are not eligible to participate. Concerning students enrolling at USF: Winners must enroll full-time, the amount awarded cannot exceed tuition and fees after federal and state gift aid is applied. High school juniors and seniors must enroll the first Fall following high school graduation to receive matching funds. All others must enroll the first Fall following receipt of the award to receive matching funds. Current FAFSA form required for match.
