AISHA HICKS’ COMMENTS…
Field Placements:
Field placement at Whittington Homes & SVCS. Serving as case
manager for an independent living program. Accompany clients
to court, case conferences and medical evaluations, prepare
treatment plans, progress reports, provide conflict mediation,
work with CPS case managers and juvenile probation officers.
Thoughts or favorite memory
you would like to share about the Social Work Program at USF
and your experience going through the program:
I enjoyed the small class size. All faculty members are very
warm and personable, always willing to listen & provide
encouragement. Jan’s “slice and dice, crash & burn” in the
research class.
Your interest areas:
Interests include child welfare, non profit organizations,
role of medical field in social work, work with adolescent
females, teaching health, public health.
Your future work and/or
graduate school plans:
I hope to regain lost ground in the medical field by
incorporating SW knowledge that I have gained, possibly by
returning to school for public health. Definitely master’s
degree; possibly PhD.
Your long-term goals:
To possibly obtain a PhD, found and/or direct a non-profit
organization. “Be my own boss!” Teach at high school or
college level. Happily married with many children.
Recommendations for
prospective students who might be interested in our program:
Never be afraid to speak your mind, challenge classmates with
viewpoints. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.
Any other comments
Jan & Joseph, thanks for all your support & encouragement. My
good memories of my time @ USF are because of you! I’ll miss
you!
