Creating a Connection to USFencrypted
- Click the Start menu (the Windows logo in the lower right hand corner of the screen) and select Connect To.
- NOTE: If you receive, "Windows cannot find any networks," please ensure your wireless card is enabled. This is usually a hardware switch or a function key. Refer to your manufacturer's documentation to enable your wireless card.
- Click Set up a connection or network (located near the bottom of the window).
- At the Choose the connection option window, select Manually connect to a wireless network and click Next.
- For Network Name, enter USFencrypted
- Drop down the Security type options to WPA2-Enterprise.
- Encryption type should be set to AES.
- Leave the security key/passphrase line blank and click Next.
- Click Change Connection Settings.
- In the wireless network properties, click the Security tab.
- Ensure Network authentication is set to PEAP and click Settings.
- Uncheck Validate server certificate.
- Click Configure.
- Uncheck Automatically use my Windows logon name and password.
- Click OK to all open windows.
- You should now be prompted by a pop up balloon asking for further credentials. Click the balloon in order to enter your USF username and password. If you miss the pop up balloon, a wireless dialog box should still be on screen with the options Connect To and Change Connection Settings. Click Connect to...
- Enter your USF username and password in the appropriate boxes and enter SFC_NETWORK in the domain box. Click OK.
- USFencrypted will take a moment to connect. When you receive the success window, click Close and see the Registration & Authentication.
Registration & Authentication
- Once connected, open an internet browser window (i.e. Internet Explorer). You will be automatically redirected to the USF Network Access Control Portal. Click Yes to any certificate warnings to continue or click Continue to website.
- Please read the policies, click Agree, and then click Next.
- Current students, faculty and staff will need to choose the first option: Students, Faculty and Staff.
- You will be asked to choose a scanning agent. Wireless users are recommended to use the dissolvable agent.
- Please enter the required information in the appropriate boxes. You will need to have your USF Username and Password in order to download the agent. If your account is locked out or expired, please visit the Help Desk with your OneCard in order to receive a new password. You may also use either your home phone or your cell phone number. Finally, please use the drop down box to choose Wireless User. Nothing needs entered in the room number.
- A dialog box will prompt you to either run or save the scanning agent. Click Run and click Run again if you are asked about an unknown publisher. The agent will download and scan your computer. A new window will open with the results.
- If you have a successful scan, the system will begin granting access to the network. This process can take up to a minute and then redirect you to the USF homepage. If you are not redirected or receive a "page cannot be displayed," please either refresh your browser or close the browser and open a new browser window.
You should now have access to the USF network. Every time you reconnect to the network, you will be redirected and asked to authenticate again.
