Academic Probation
Students with a cumulative GPA below 2.0 are placed on academic probation. The terms of probation include requiring students to meet with a MAP (Monitoring Academic Progress) Advisor once a week for the duration of the semester. These weekly meetings are scheduled around the student's schedule and standing appointments (the same day and time every week).
The purpose of the meetings is to help students get back on track and return to good standing at the university. We will discuss classes as well as other things that are happening in the lives of the students. We also get feedback from the students instructors at three points throughout the semester - week five, eight, and eleven. We do this to serve as an accountability person for the students. Much of the information discussed is self reported so feedback from faculty can help the student see if he or she is headed in the right direction. If the faculty feedback and the self reporting are fundamentally different we can help the student get back on track.
Students are notified of their MAP Advisor, in writing, just prior to the start of the semester. Students need to attend meetings as students sign a contract which explains the MAP attendance policy. Students must attend 75% of scheduled MAP meetings. If a student attends fewer than 75% and earns a term GPA of below 2.0 the student will be suspended for one year.
