Welcome from the Chair
The study of psychology, at its core, relates to understanding human behavior. At the university, you can learn the science of psychology in an environment rich with the Franciscan values, which emphasize service, respect for creation, fostering peace and justice, community, and the dignity of each person.
One of the main assets of a psychology bachelor’s degree is its flexibility. While a Ph.D. is necessary to actually be considered a “psychologist,” the bachelor’s in psychology opens the doors of possibility to a number of fields, from sales and marketing, to case management, to healthcare. And, if you decide to pursue graduate study, the Department of Psychology and Counseling also offers Master’s degrees to continue your education, offered in the evenings to accommodate a working schedule. As an added bonus, USF alumni receive a significant tuition discount for their second degree.
Perhaps the best part of our program at USF is the personal attention you receive as a student here. Our faculty are not only experts in their fields and highly involved in the community at large, but are approachable as well. Faculty serve both as educators and advisors to you in your educational journey.
I would welcome the opportunity to talk with you or answer any questions you may have about our department or its programs. Best of luck to you in your educational endeavors.
