April alive with music at USF

March 6, 2014 FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The University of Saint Francis will bring April alive with three music concerts in its North Campus auditorium.

A concert by the University Singers is planned for Sunday, April 13 at 7 p.m. Under the direction of Maestro Robert Nance, USF instructor of music and director of the professional vocal ensemble “Heartland,” the University Singers will perform a variety of songs, including: “Sanctus” from the Requiem by Gabriel Faure; “The Awakening” by Joseph Martin; a pop gospel song, “Where There is Love,” by Bob Hurd; “Where you Lead” by Carole King; a medley from “Les Miserables” by Claude-Michel Schonberg; an African song, “O Sifuni Mungu,” arranged By Roger Emerson; “In Whatever Time We Have” from “Children of Eden” by Stephen Schwartz; a gospel song, “Worthy to Be Praised,” by Byron Smith; and “Prayer of Saint Francis” by Rene Clausen.

The University Singers of the University of Saint Francis is a diverse ensemble of USF students who prepare for public performance selections of varying styles and scope to provide educational enrichment and enjoyment for participants and audiences.

The Guitar Ensemble, directed by Sam Smiley, will perform an end-of-semester concert on Tuesday, April 22 at 7 p.m.

The Jazz Ensemble, also directed by Smiley, will wrap up the musical offerings with its annual spring concert of jazz standards, contemporary pieces and original compositions and arrangements on Friday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m. The University Jazz Combo will also perform.
