USF business programs earn ACBSP accreditation
Jan. 4, 2012 FORT WAYNE, Ind.—The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) Baccalaureate/Graduate Degree Board of Commissioners awarded the University of Saint Francis initial accreditation of its business programs in December.
ACBSP accreditation certifies that the teaching and learning processes within the Keith Busse School of Business and Entrepreneurial Leadership (KBSOBEL) business school meet the rigorous educational standards established by ACBSP.
“The University of Saint Francis has shown its commitment to teaching excellence and to the process of quality improvement by participating in the accreditation process,” said ACBSP Director of Accreditation Steve Parscale, who will present the certificate of initial accreditation at the ACBSP annual conference in Baltimore, Md., on June 17. “This accreditation is evidence that University of Saint Francis is committed to providing the highest quality business education for their students.”
The accreditation was accomplished through the work of many people, said KBSOBEL Dean Helen Murray. The project helped the school develop an accurate measurement of student learning, while the accreditation supplies tools for the continuous improvement of programs.
“ACBSP commented favorably on the combination of experiential learning with academic rigor in all of our programs,” Murray said. “The CEO Forum was singled out as a best practice to be shared with other universities in the ACBSP family because it was a benefit to multiple constituents—students, faculty and the broader business community.”
ACBSP also cited impressive and committed support from the regional business community and the school’s board of advisers, and commended USF for its evident and strong commitment to the mission and to the Franciscan values that underlie that mission.
“We realize we are lucky to be part of a university with capable leadership, solid policies and procedures, and a bias towards stringent assessment of student learning,” Murray said.
Established in 1988, ACBSP is the only business accrediting organization for all associate, baccalaureate, and graduate degree programs.
The University of Saint Francis, founded in 1890 as a comprehensive university in the Catholic Franciscan tradition, offers more than 60 undergraduate and 14 graduate programs in five schools: The School of Health Sciences, School of Arts and Sciences, Keith Busse School of Business and Entrepreneurial Leadership, School of Professional Studies and School of Creative Arts. More than 2,300 students from a broad geographic region attend USF for its academic excellence. The university has a regional campus in Crown Point, Ind.
