Main Circulation Desk of the Library

Librarians are generally available to meet with you between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and by appointment at other times.

To meet with a librarian, stop at the main circulation desk and ask to speak to a librarian. No appointment is necessary. The main circulation desk is located on the 2nd floor of the library.

NEW! Google+ Hangouts

The library now offers reference services using the Google+ Hangouts feature in your email account.

Click the icon below to see if a librarian is available to chat. You will be redirected to your inbox. Enter in the chat box on the left side of your screen to start a new Hangout. If a librarian isn't available, send them a message and they'll get back to you.

For more in-depth research questions call the Ask-a-Librarian number or email to make an appointment. Appointments can be in-person or we can set up a time to meet virtually using Google+ Hangouts.

You can call 260.479.5001 to speak directly with a library staff member who can assist you. This number is staffed during library hours.

By Text Message

You can also text your questions to 260.479.5001. Text messages will be responded to as soon as possible. Staff are available to answer text messages during library hours.

If a message is received off hours, a response will be sent by the following business day.

This SMS reference service is for the USF students, faculty, and staff. Add 260-479-5001 to your speed dial list!

This service is ideal for simple questions that require brief answers. Please use the phone or email contacts for in-depth questions.

Replies will be sent as text messages from our phone (we use an Apple iPhone to provide this service). Concise responses may include abbreviations and common shorthand. If longer responses are necessary, we may need to follow-up via email, phone or in-person.

Text messaging reference is a service provided by Lee and Jim Vann Library free of charge. Your cell phone service providers may charge for sent or received text messages. By sending a text message to this Library service, you give permission to Vann Library to reply to your text message.
