The Ultimate Road Trip is an annual event that is hosted by the Student Activities Council - a group that plans events for the University of Saint Francis and is also open to all students of the school. Five to six destinations for the trip are chosen by the members of the group, and one of these cities are drawn from a hat the night of departure. When students sign up for this trip, they have no clue where they are going, and have to pack their way for cities ranging from New York to Des Moines to Atlanta.

Four years ago was my first "URT" experience, and I was really hoping to go to New York, a city that has been in the hat for three years now, and has yet to be drawn. In my Ultimate Road Trip experiences I have gone to and enjoyed many cities that I never would have visited before: Washington D.C., Baltimore, Atlanta, and most recently Charlotte, North Carolina. SAC provides snacks, transportation, and a map and then set us on our merry way - all for under twenty five dollars. The destination is drawn that Friday night, we journey by bus throughout the night and arrive at the destination bright and early to start the day. Then we leave late at night, after spending the entire Saturday in the city and arrive back at home early Sunday morning.

I have learned going on these trips that it is not the destination that makes the journey, it is the time that you spend with your friends, or even making new ones along the way. As cheesy as it sounds, you don’t get chances like these to spend a good quality weekend with a bunch of your friends all the time, and I have memories that I will keep with me forever- playing silly games along the way in the bus and ridiculous pictures that we posed for. It is a Student Activities event that I think will always be great, not only because of the mysteriousness of the destination, but also because it provides a perhaps new and exciting experience.
