Admission Criteria

Admission into Teacher Education

Candidates majoring in teacher education must complete the Application for Admission to Teacher Education (Transition Point 1) upon successful completion of:

  1. EDUC 140 and EDUC 201 in addition to maintaining an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5. Teacher education majors will not be recommended for teacher education if they achieve less than a grade of “C-” in content and professional education courses. For more information refer to the Undergraduate Teacher Education Handbook.
  2. Achieve successful EDUC 201 Field Evaluations
  3. Clearance of National Sex Offender check.
  4. Evaluation of Professional Dispositions / Incident Report(s).
  5. Documentation of 10 hours of Service Engagement.
  6. Documentation of one Professional Development activity.
  7. Demonstrate Basic Skills in one of the following ways:
  • Pass PRAXIS I Tests: Reading (176), Writing (172) and Math (175).
  • ACT with a score of at least 24.
  • SAT with composite Critical Reading and Math score at least 1100.
  • GRE with a composite score at least 1100.
  • Earn a Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Praxis 1 composite score of 527 (Reading, Writing, and Math).

Admission into Student Teaching

Candidates must meet the following criteria to be accepted into the Student Teaching phase of the program (Transition Point 2):

  1. Be admitted into the Teacher Education program.
  2. Submit the completed Application for Student Teaching.
  3. Successfully complete the Developing Portfolio and Interview.
  4. Submit an Expanded Criminal History check.
  5. Clearance of National Sex Offender check.
  6. Achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.5.
  7. Achieve a GPA of 2.8 in Professional Education and content area coursework (see Teacher Education Handbook for courses).
  8. Pass all Professional Education or content major courses with a grade of “C-” or higher.
  9. Achieve successful EDUC 301 Field Evaluations
  10. Evaluation of Professional Dispositions / Incident Report(s).
  11. Submit proof of 30 hours of Service Engagement.
  12. Submit proof of 3 Professional Development activities.
