Biology

Majors and Requirements

Liberal Arts Biology and Pre-professional

(128 credit hour minimum to complete the degree)
Students majoring in biology select one of three tracks: cellular and molecular biology (CMB), ecology and evolutionary biology (EEB), or a “classical” track. Upon graduation, biology majors are prepared for careers in research laboratories, environmental laboratories and conservation-related fieldwork. Many biology majors continue their education in either graduate or professional school, pursuing either a master’s or a doctorate degree.

Secondary Education Life Science/Mild Intervention (grades 9-12)

(133 credit hour minimum to complete the degree)

Environmental Science

(128 credit hour minimum to complete the degree)
The Environmental Science program is permeated with the Franciscan value of respect for creation. The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science degree consists of a core required of all students and an area of concentration chosen by the students according to their goals.

Careers for students with bachelor’s degrees in environmental science are growing rapidly. Environmental science students have taken jobs in industry as environmental compliance officers, managers of environmental health and safety and in environmental laboratories. Staff positions in field stations in environmental education are also available to graduates. Environmental science students anticipating graduate work apply to graduate programs in chemistry, biology or environmental science. Students may apply to law school with the intention of practicing environmental law.

Associate Degree: Environmental Science
