What a Long, Strange Trip it's Been:  A Century of Catholic Biblical Scholarship

Lance Richey

Sunday, November 20, 2011 at 3:00 PM
Brookside Ballroom (3rd Floor)
2701 Spring Street, Fort Wayne, IN

Over the last century, Catholic biblical scholarship has undergone profound and often surprising changes. In this public lecture, Dr. Lance Richey (Associate Professor of Theology) will explore the changing attitudes toward modern historical-critical approaches to Scripture, from its rejection by Pope St. Pius X through its triumph at Vatican II and afterward.  Dr. Richey will also explore the recent pronouncements by Pope Benedict XVI who, while acknowledging the strengths and limitations of modern critical methods, also insists upon the importance of embedding biblical scholarship in the life and worship of the Church.

This lecture is free and open to the public, and is part of the Department of Philosophy & Theology's Public Lecture Series 2011-12, sponsored by the Department of Philosophy & Theology and the School of Arts and Sciences of the University of Saint Francis.
