When one hears of a supposed war being waged today between religion and science, how should one react? Here are a few common responses:
There is something wrong with each of these responses.
In this public lecture, Dr. Lewis Pearson (Assistant Professor of Philosophy) will argue that the oft-reported tensions between religion and science result from a failure to understand the nature of both faith and reason. Dr. Pearson will explain that there isn't a war today between faith and reason, but rather, that there is a war on faith and reason.
This lecture is free and open to the public, and is part of the Department of Philosophy & Theology's Public Lecture Series 2011-12, sponsored by the Department of Philosophy & Theology and the School of Arts and Sciences of the University of Saint Francis.
