In this public lecture, Dr. John Bequette (Associate Professor of Theology) will examine the idea of friendship as inherited from ancient thinkers (Aristotle, Cicero) and how it was transformed by Christianity as seen in the Gospels and the writings of Augustine of Hippo, Aelred of Rievaulx, and Thomas Aquinas. Dr. Bequette will also examine the role of friendship in contemporary culture.
This lecture is free and open to the public, and is part of the Department of Philosophy & Theology's Public Lecture Series 2011-12, sponsored by the Department of Philosophy & Theology and the School of Arts and Sciences of the University of Saint Francis.
