This program is designed to provide a solid foundation in language and literature for students who plan to enter graduate English study and perhaps college English teaching. Four semesters (or the equivalent) of a modern or classical language at the college level are required.

This major also requires the following Core Requirements (ENGL 231 or 232, 241, 242, 251, 252, 262, 303, 452) plus one of the following concentrations: LITERATURE (15 semester hours from Engl 320, 362, 456, 463, 491, 492); BUSINESS (fifteen semester hours from Bus 200, 230, 281, 351, Comm 385); COMMUNCATION (fifteen semester hours, Comm 211, 310, 330, 385 and Engl 362).

The major in Secondary Education requires COMM 211; ENGL 232, 241, 242, 251, 252, 303, 405, 452, SPCH 121, plus nine hours from ENGL 262, 320, 362, 420, 456, 463, 465, 491, 492.
