All of the following honors credits must be completed in order to graduate from the Honors Program. Web registration is not available for these courses.
HONR 200 HONORS SEMINAR, 3 semester hours - for students entering the program before Spring 2009; this class will not be offered after Spring 2009
An introduction course to the Honors Program that develops the core Franciscan values of the program and plans the rest of a student’s experiences in the program. Emphasis is on student-driven coursework. This course will fulfil general education requirements for Social Responsibility and Leadership (Learning Outcomes #4, 5, 6, 7).

HONR 201 GREAT BOOKS FOUNDATION I, 3 semester hours - for students entering the program Spring 2009 or after
HONR 201 and 202 trace the development of Western culture and civilization as it is seen in the Great Books that are representative of their time and place. HONR 201 begins with the Old Testament (c. 1400-300 BC) and ends with the writings of Plato (c. 427-347 BC). This course will fulfil general education requirement for English Common Content (Learning Outcomes #9, 14, 18, 20) and will substitute ENGL 101 for students accepted into the Honor's Program.

HONR 202 GREAT BOOKS FOUNDATION II, 3 semester hours - for students entering the program Spring 2009 or after
This course continues the content of Great Books from HONR 201.
Offered spring of 2010 for the first time and every spring thereafter
Prerequisites: HONR 201, Permission of the Honors Council
HONR 300 HONORS SERVICE PROJECT, 1 semester hour
A self-designed service project that involves at least 50 hours of community service where students share their time and talent in the service of others, on or off campus. This service project is to be an added component to a traditional class the student is simultaneously enrolled in. A faculty/staff mentor and the Honors Council will approve a project description that includes a discussion of how the project reflects Franciscan values. A Learning Contract must be submitted prior to enrolling in this course.

Prerequisites: HONR 200 or HONR 201, permission of the Honors Council
IDS 490 INDEPENDENT STUDY, 1 semester hour taken three times
An added element of self-study to enrich a traditional class in which the student collaborates with a faculty/staff member. This course enhancement aims to help the student appreciate Franciscan intellectual tradition and extend the Honors Program into the student's major discipline. The IDS 490 credits must be taken in conjunction with a 3 or 4 credit hour course. A Learning Contract must be completed for each enrichment credit.

Prerequisites: HONR 200 or HONR 201, Junior or Senior status, permission of the Honors Council
HONR 400 HONORS PROJECT, 1 semester hour
A culminating project within a student’s discipline under the guidance of a faculty/staff member and addressed within the scope of Franciscan values. Students must register for this credit along with their Senior Capstone three credit hour course in their major. Students must give a public presentation of the results of their project.
