The Chemistry Department at USF offers a major in Chemistry, a minor in Chemistry, and a liberal arts major in General Science. We also provide instruction for the Secondary Education majors with primary areas of chemistry and general science and supporting areas of physical science.
The instrumental support in our department is one of the finest available for a liberal arts college of our size. In fact, our labs are stocked with instruments designed to provide the student with a hands-on experience similar to that of institutions much larger than ours. Our instrumentation includes: an NMR, several Gas Chromatographs, a Mass Spectrometer, an Emission Spectrometer, several Absorption Spectrometers as well as UV, VIS, IR Spectrometers, and Fluorescent Spectrometer; and several HPLCs (High Pressure Liquid Chromatographers). Our department houses the Schouweiler Planetarium, Observatory Deck and five specialized laboratories that enable the student to encounter and interact with the materials and equipment of scientific research.
