When Cortney Shepard had the opportunity to be a part of a medical mission trip to the Dominican Republic in 2007 she never imagined the path on which it would lead her. Upon her return and with the guidance of her University of Saint Francis advisor, Dr. Amy Obringer, she created Formula for Life. Throughout the remainder of her career at the University of Saint Francis she organized fundraisers and formula drives to support Formula for Life. This spring Cortney saw her academic career at USF come to a close with her graduation, but Formula for Life will continue. Cortney was awarded the Jenzabar Foundation's 2009 Student Leadership Award, a $5,000 grant for her efforts to help feed malnourished babies in Haiti through Formula for Life. She was one of only ten recipients across the globe to receive this honor. The Jenzabar Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Jenzabar, Inc. and issues grants to institutions of higher education and other non-profit organizations with similar missions to help promote the activities of grant recipients within their communities and on a global level. Congratulations, Cortney, on this tremendous honor.
