On May 28, 2009 Teresa Mansfield, an Environmental Science graduate student at the University of Saint Francis, used all of her training as the Environmental Health and Safety manager at Kautex in Avilla to save the life of a fellow employee. "I've been responding to emergencies for over 14 years and this is the first time that I ever had to 'go all the way.' Doing mouth-to-mouth on a real person who is blue and has a family is a lot more emotional than on a plastic dummy. Having real situations arise can be very traumatic and I am incredibly grateful things turned out so well," she said. Critical to this rescue were Teresa's training and use of an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator). This should serve as a lesson to everyone trained in first aid, CPR, and AED use to remember your training, because you never know when you will have to use it to save somebody's life.
