Welcome to the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Saint Francis. I am Dr. Matt Smith, Interim Dean for 2010-2011. During my eight years at the University, I have served as Director of Writing, Chairperson of the Department of English and Foreign Languages, and Director of General Education. Additionally, I was English faculty at colleges in Illinois and Tennessee.
The School of Arts and Sciences at USF offers exemplar academic programs and engaging extracurricular experiences. The SOAS faculty are qualified and dedicated professionals with many years of experience in their chosen disciplines. The faculty are passionate about their teaching, scholarship, and service to the University and community. They are also sensitive to the needs and demands in today's workforce. As a result, through course and program design, general education curriculum, study abroad, research, internships, capstone experiences, and our unique Academic Exploration program, the SOAS faculty thrive on exposing students to an integrative education with particular importance placed on the fusion of a liberal arts education with the practical demands of the 21st century. Our faculty also skillfully incorporate the Franciscan values of reverence, learning, service, peace and justice, and respect for all creation both in and outside the classroom. These well-designed experiences prepare our students to excel in graduate schools and careers and cultivate a love of learning.
If you have any questions about the School of Arts and Sciences, our degree programs, the Three Rivers Science Symposium, Franciscan Studies, the John Dun Scotus Honors Program, our many clubs, or our faculty, I encourage you to contact me at msmith@sf.edu. Thank you for your interest in the University of Saint Francis and the School of Arts and Sciences.
